What a VPN test can actually tell you
A useful VPN check compares the connection visible to websites with the behavior you expect from your VPN. That includes the public IP address, approximate IP region, network operator, VPN or proxy signals, DNS resolvers and WebRTC behavior.
Important: No browser-based test can reliably reveal your original public IP when a VPN is correctly routing and protecting the connection.
How to check your VPN
- Connect to the VPN server you want to test.
- Run the NetPrivacyScan privacy scan.
- Check whether the visible IP and approximate region match the VPN server you selected.
- Run the DNS Leak Test and review the resolvers that answer your lookups.
- Check WebRTC for an additional public IP exposure.
What “VPN detected” means
VPN detection is an estimate based on network information and anonymizer signals. Some VPN servers can be identified confidently, while others may appear as hosting or datacenter networks. A detection result should be treated as a signal rather than proof of a specific VPN brand.
