What is removed, what is retained, and important limits

The cleaner removes original JPEG application metadata and comments, including EXIF, XMP, IPTC, embedded thumbnails, color profiles and data after the image’s end marker. It does not re-encode the compressed image data.

A newly generated EXIF orientation tag is retained only when needed to keep the image’s rotation or mirroring. Basic JPEG rendering information is rebuilt where needed. Removing color profiles or HDR gain maps can change colors or brightness; review the downloaded copy before sharing.

The four results above inspect standard EXIF fields, not every possible metadata format. “Not found in EXIF” does not mean the photo has no identifying information. Verification checks the output’s JPEG structure and allowed minimal metadata, and confirms that the browser can display it. It is not a forensic privacy guarantee and does not detect watermarks, steganography or details in the visible image.

Only ordinary 8-bit baseline or progressive JPEGs are supported, up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels. HEIC, PNG, animated/multi-image formats and JPEGs with unreadable EXIF or ambiguous orientation are not cleaned. Use a current browser. Files, preview URLs and results stay in this page’s memory until cleared or the page is closed. Renaming the cleaned download avoids copying your original filename.
